TITLE: COPYWRITER
REPORTS TO: CREATIVE DIRECTOR
RANKING: SALARIED/EXEMPT
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Copywriters at Masterworks write with emotion, power, and imagination about nonprofit Christian ministries that transform lives. We look for writers with direct response experience who can create compelling fundraising appeals, newsletters, collateral materials, video and telemarketing scripts, and other copy that moves donors to action. Experience writing for digital (including emails, websites, landing pages, and social media) is essential. You’ll be working in a collaborative environment with a team of creatives, account planners, digital marketing strategists, and support staff. You must be organized and think logically, yet able to tell a story with emotion and urgency.
SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:
- Manage writing responsibilities for multiple clients in multiple channels (direct mail, digital, etc.).
- Work collaboratively with client services and creative staff to develop creative work and contribute to strategies that will compel your client’s constituents to respond.
- Participate in creative meetings. Generate ideas for communicating information and needs in effective ways.
- Present projects to the client in clear and compelling way.
- Research facts and stories that illustrate need and build a case for support.
- Create copy that motivates and inspires people to want to respond to the specific objective of the piece.
- Work with the digital marketing team to create content on website projects.
- Develop a deep understanding of your clients and learn to communicate in their voice in a manner that will illicit response.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Expertise in and fascination with direct marketing and fundraising.
- Portfolio demonstrating expertise in digital copywriting (emails, websites, social media, etc.).
- Broad knowledge base and understanding of the evangelical Christian market. Experience working with Christian organizations preferred.
- Ability to develop interpersonal relationships (internal and external) that encourage a productive work environment for Masterworks and positive outcomes for clients.
- Creative mind, ability to tell compelling stories that will elicit response.
- Imaginative person not tied to facts alone. Able to “get into the shoes” of the person or organization that is sending the communication. Able to identify with the person in need and understand “what it must feel like” to endure that kind of experience.
- Logical thinker and writer.
- Ability to work on new projects and adapt the process as needed.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to make things happen while working within team norms.
- Willingness to work outside of specific function when necessary.
- Commitment to collaborative work flow with account teams, writers, and designers.
- Able to think on your feet during resource interviews and other spontaneous situations.
- Computer skills. Must be competent with Microsoft Word. Working knowledge of HTML preferred.
