Arch Hades

British, b. 1992

Poetry · Painting · Sculpture · Digital art

Arch Hades is an unusual case in the contemporary market: a poet who became, by press account, the highest-paid living poet in the world after a single 2021 digital sale at Christie's, and who has since moved into painting and sculpture with a fast-rising exhibition profile that runs from London galleries to a 2026 collateral show at the Venice Biennale. For collectors, she is a live test of whether attention built in the digital and social-media art world can convert into a durable market for physical, gallery-represented work.

Arch Hades was born in 1992 in Saint Petersburg, Russia. According to multiple published profiles, her family left Russia for England after her father was killed in a politically motivated murder, and she was enrolled at Hill House Preparatory School in London before spending seven years at Wycombe Abbey, an all-girls boarding school, until she was 18. She has said in interviews that she enjoyed art at GCSE level but did not pursue formal art training, teaching herself painting technique years later, largely through online tutorials.

She has described a period working in politics before her writing career took off, though further specifics, including any degree or university, are not documented in available sources. Arch Hades began posting poetry publicly in 2018 and has published poetry collections that include High Tide (2018), Fool's Gold (2020), and Paper Romance (2021); her own site states she has published six books in total, while other sources cite four, and the complete list has not been independently verified. Arch Hades is a professional name rather than her birth name, which has not been made public.

In 2021 she collaborated with digital artist Andres Reisinger and musician RAC on Arcadia, an animated, sound-accompanied digital poem that sold at Christie's New York. She subsequently moved into painting and sculpture, with an inaugural solo exhibition at Ladbroke Hall, London, in November 2024, followed by her first major central London solo show, We Are All Just Passing Through, at 8 Berkeley Square in 2025. In 2026 she opened Return | Ritorno, a solo exhibition at the Scoletta Battioro e Tiraoro di Venezia timed to the Venice Biennale. Per her own site, she is represented by Licht Feld Gallery in Basel; her exhibitions and market activity have also been covered by outlets including HENI and Culturalee. She lives in London.

Press coverage of Arch Hades has centered on her crossover between poetry, social media, and the auction market, and, more recently, on her expansion into painting and sculpture ahead of major shows in London and Venice. Outlets including the Observer, Lux Magazine, and FAD Magazine have profiled her practice and her Venice Biennale-timed exhibition, generally describing an artist whose work folds personal history and text into immersive, large-scale installations. No formal art prizes or juried honors for her visual art practice have been documented in available sources; her strongest public recognition remains the market-based "highest-paid living poet" designation tied to the 2021 Christie's sale.

Arch Hades's auction record is Arcadia, a digital poem realized as a nine-minute, 48-second animation, which sold for USD 525,000 at Christie's New York in the 21st Century Evening Sale on 9 November 2021. Press coverage described it at the time as the first collaborative interdisciplinary fine art NFT to reach auction and the most expensive poem ever sold, a result that led multiple outlets to call her the world's highest-paid living poet. Earlier that year, in March 2021, a poem she contributed to an online digital-collection auction with musician RAC sold in an edition for roughly USD 71,411.

Her market in physical works is much newer and thinner. In 2025, her painting Man of Many sold at Christie's London for GBP 25,200 in a Post-War and Contemporary Art Day Sale, a fraction of the Arcadia price and a reminder that her digital-art record and her painting market are, so far, two very different data sets.

Authentication and provenance

No catalogue raisonne.

No catalogue raisonne and no certificate-of-authenticity program have been identified. Her physical works date only to 2024 onward and are verified through the artist's studio and her representing gallery. Her 2021 digital work Arcadia sold at Christie's as an NFT, whose blockchain record served as its provenance at the time of sale.

Arch Hades's auction history is extremely short: essentially one landmark digital-art sale and one modestly priced painting sale, separated by four years and by medium. The USD 525,000 Arcadia result reflects a single NFT transaction rather than a deep or repeatable market for her physical output, and her painting and sculpture practice only began showing publicly in 2024. There is no catalogue raisonne, and no museum collection has been documented as holding her work as of this profile's data date, so provenance and authentication for her paintings and sculptures currently run through the artist's studio and her gallery partners rather than an independent scholarly body.
