Why Daisy Parris matters
Daisy Parris is a young British painter whose text-laden, emotionally direct abstractions have moved quickly from small London exhibitions to a program with international museum foundations and a rapidly rising auction market. For a collector, Parris is a case study in an early-career market: strong institutional and critical momentum paired with an auction history that is still thin enough that a single sale can move the record by a wide margin.

Biography
Daisy Parris was born in 1993 in Kent, England, and completed a foundation diploma at the University for the Creative Arts in Rochester. Parris earned a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Goldsmiths, University of London, graduating in 2014, and undertook a residency with the ASA Art School Alliance at the Hochschule fur bildende Kunste in Hamburg the following year.
Parris's paintings combine raw, expressive mark-making with fragments of handwritten text, working through themes of intimacy, vulnerability, and personal history in a diary-like visual language. The work gained wider attention following the 2020 solo exhibitions Star Studded Canopy at Sim Smith in London and The Worry Tree at Ruttkowski;68 in Paris, and has since been shown in solo exhibitions at James Fuentes (New York and Los Angeles), M+B in Los Angeles, and the Green Family Art Foundation in Dallas, alongside a continuing program with Sim Smith, including a 2025 presentation at the Royal College of Physicians in London. In 2025 Parris undertook a residency with The Roberts Institute of Art in Scotland. Parris is represented by Sim Smith, London, and has lived and worked between London and Somerset at various points in recent years.
Critical reception
Critical attention has grown alongside the exhibition schedule. Cultured magazine profiled the artist around a 2025 Frieze London appearance, following a year that included solo shows at Sim Smith in London and James Fuentes in Los Angeles plus a group exhibition at Hauser & Wirth. A Frieze review of the 2021 painting A Storm the Night You Went described its emotional scale in strongly favorable terms. Museum collection holdings for the artist are not yet independently confirmed, and recognition to date rests more on exhibition history and press coverage than on institutional acquisition.
Market
Parris's auction market is new and moving fast. Christie's sold Pink At Night for GBP 44,600 on 27 June 2024, then Phillips New York sold I'd Rather Get No Sleep Next To You Than Sleep Alone (2022) for USD 254,000 on 25 September 2024, more than twelve times its low estimate and a new auction record for the artist, reported by multiple outlets including HENI, Artnet, and ARTnews. Other Phillips lots for smaller works on paper and canvas, such as A Poem and Quick Poem, have sold in the low tens of thousands of pounds. The auction history remains short, with results concentrated at Phillips in 2024 and 2025, so any single lot can shift the picture materially.

What collectors should know
Parris is represented by a single gallery, Sim Smith in London, and there is no catalogue raisonne, so provenance and studio verification carry extra weight for any secondary-market purchase. The auction record is real but built on a small number of sales concentrated in 2024 and 2025, which means prices have moved sharply between individual lots rather than along a long, smooth trend. Collectors should treat the current record price as a data point from a thin, fast-moving market rather than a stable benchmark, and should expect continued volatility as more works reach auction.
