Ix Shells

Itzel Yard, working as Ix Shells, was born in Panama in 1990. She spent several years in Toronto, Canada, where she studied architectural technology, a program she did not complete. She later enrolled in an online Bachelor of Computer Science through Goldsmiths, University of London, beginning around 2018 or 2019; the most recent available source describes the degree as still in progress, with no completion documented. Alongside this formal study, she taught herself to code largely through online tutorials and video resources.

She began working under the name Ix Shells (rendered as IX SHELLS by some auction houses) making generative, algorithmically built images that draw on Panama's landscape, color, and a glitch-inflected, Caribbean-influenced visual language. Her profile rose sharply in 2021 after the sale of Dreaming at Dusk, a collaboration referencing The Tor Project, to the collector organization PleasrDAO. She continues to live and work in Panama.
