Louis Fratino

Louis Fratino was born in 1993 in Annapolis, Maryland. He earned a BFA in Painting, with a concentration in Illustration, from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore in 2015. While a student he held a Yale Norfolk Painting Fellowship in 2014, and after graduating he received a Fulbright Research Fellowship in Painting that took him to Berlin from 2015 to 2016.

His early solo exhibitions ran through small and mid-size galleries, including Platform Gallery in Baltimore, Thierry Goldberg Gallery in New York, and Heirloom, his 2018 solo show at Antoine Levi in Paris. He built a longstanding relationship with Sikkema Jenkins & Co. in New York, where he showed Morning in 2020 and In bed and abroad in 2023, and with Galerie Neu in Berlin. His first institutional solo exhibition, curated by Jared Ledesma, opened at the Des Moines Art Center in 2021.

Recognition accelerated from there. In 2024 his paintings were included in the 60th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, Stranieri Ovunque, Foreigners Everywhere, curated by Adriano Pedrosa.
