Michelangelo di Campidoglio is the name most often used in the art market for the painter more formally recorded as Michele Pace, called Michelangelo del Campidoglio (also written Michelangelo Pace da Campidoglio or Michelangelo del Campidoglio). Sources place his birth around 1610, in either Vitorchiano or Rome, though some references, including Sotheby's and Pandolfini, give 1625 instead. He is generally said to have died in Rome around 1670, with a minority of sources giving 1669. No source consulted provides an exact day or month for either event, so both dates should be read as approximate.

He worked in Rome as a specialist in still life and animal painting, producing dense compositions of fruit, such as grapes, pomegranates, apples, blackberries, and cherries, often set against landscape backgrounds, as well as portraits of dogs.
