Moe Nakamura

Moe Nakamura was born in 1988 in Tokyo, Japan. She studied painting at Joshibi University of Art and Design, completing a bachelor's degree in 2010 and a master's degree in 2012, and won several student prizes along the way, including the university's Graduation Production Prize and the Violet Prize (Omura Satoshi Prize) from the 2009 Degree Show. Rather than painting, her mature practice centers on sculpture: figures carved from camphor wood and finished with oil paint, rendered in a soft, childlike register that mixes human and animal features.

Her early solo exhibitions were held in Tokyo galleries in 2012 and 2014. Her profile widened in 2020, when she held the solo exhibition GROWTH at Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei and had her first exhibition with Dorothy Circus Gallery in Rome.
