Why Osvaldo Mariscotti matters
Osvaldo Mariscotti is a living, actively exhibiting geometric abstractionist whose work has moved in a short span from gallery walls to major museum walls, including a 2025 acquisition by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. For a collector, he represents an artist whose institutional profile and gallery infrastructure, built around Upsilon Gallery's spaces in New York, London, and Milan, are currently developing faster than his still-thin public auction record.

Biography
Osvaldo Mariscotti is an American citizen who, by his own account, grew up in Piedmont, Italy, and moved to the United States at age seventeen. He has described majoring in mathematics and computer science at Pace University in New York and completing a final semester in London at the European Business School, part of Regent's University. His own biography also references a degree in engineering and a period developing real estate projects before he turned fully to art, and he has spoken of going on to complete a Master's in Applied Mathematics, though the institution and exact years for these claims are not independently documented.
He presented his first solo show at Artopia Gallery in New York and afterward held a four-year exclusive arrangement with Artsforum Gallery, also in New York. His practice, described by his gallery as spanning painting, printmaking, and sculpture, draws on the formal vocabulary of Suprematism, particularly the straight line and the square, within a hard-edge and gestural approach to color. He continues to live and work in New York City and is currently represented by Upsilon Gallery.
Critical reception
Critical commentary on Mariscotti has focused on his engineering-trained sense of balance and his lineage from early twentieth-century geometric abstraction. His gallery describes his work as grounded in "the interplay of form and colour" and rooted in the formal vocabulary of Suprematism, placing him within a broader geometric conceptualism. His exhibition history includes a 2015 showing at the Officina delle Zattere in Venice, linked to the 56th Venice Biennale's national pavilion program, and a 2014 solo exhibition at La Sapienza University of Rome inaugurated by critic Achille Bonito Oliva.
Market
Mariscotti's public auction history is short and concentrated in the mid-2020s. Two results are documented with full sourcing: Ensemble (2015) sold for USD 108,500 at Freeman's | Hindman on 13 May 2025, a result reported as roughly 10 percent above his prior record, and Untitled (2016) sold for USD 97,900 at Phillips, Hong Kong, on 29 March 2025. Market commentary from mid-2025 also points to a third, higher result for a work titled Curves (2019), reportedly just above USD 150,000, but the auction house, sale location, and exact date for that sale are not publicly documented, so it should be treated as an unconfirmed, higher data point rather than a fully sourced record. Alongside this small set of auction sales, his gallery-side momentum includes the July 2025 acquisition of a painting by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum for its permanent collection.

What collectors should know
Mariscotti's market is early-stage relative to his institutional standing: only a handful of auction results are documented, all from 2025, which means each new sale can move his record meaningfully and any single price should be read with that thin sample in mind. There is no catalogue raisonne, so provenance and verification run through Upsilon Gallery, his representing gallery in New York, London, and Milan. Collectors should also note that public sources disagree on his exact birth year, with most major listings giving 1960 and at least one commercial listing giving 1969, a discrepancy that has not been resolved by an independent primary record.
