Pierre Dupuis was born on 3 March 1610 in Montfort-l'Amaury, France. He built a practice around still-life painting, arranging fruit, game, and hunting trophies on stone entablatures in compositions that show the influence of Northern European still-life traditions. In 1646, Henri de Lorraine, comte d'Harcourt, appointed him Peintre Ordinaire des Ecuries du Roi, a royal court painting post, with the consent of Anne of Austria. He was received into the Academie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture between 1663 and 1664, formalizing his standing among the leading painters working in Paris. Some sources note a connection to the painter Pierre Mignard and to art activity in Italy, though the documentary record for this period of his life is thin. He died in Paris on 18 February 1682.
