Qu Fengguo

Qu Fengguo was born in 1966 in Liaoning Province, China. He graduated from the Stage Design Department of the Shanghai Theatre Academy in 1988 and, after beginning to paint abstractly around 1990, went on to teach at the same academy. He lives and works in Shanghai.

His early practice, from the 1990s, is associated with what galleries describe as his Handwritten and Cycle series, in which repeated, diaristic marks build up dense fields on the canvas.
