Ronald Ventura

Ventura was born in 1973 in Manila, Philippines; his exact birth date is not documented in publicly available sources. He earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Painting, from the University of Santo Tomas in Manila in 1993, and stayed on at the university afterward as a painting instructor.

His early career was built through a string of Philippine competition prizes through the 1990s, followed by the Artist of the Year award from Art Manila in 2001 and the CCP Thirteen Artists Award from the Cultural Center of the Philippines in 2003. In 2005 he received the Ateneo Art Award, which came with a studio residency in Sydney and supported his The Human Study series. His international profile expanded with Mapping the Corporeal at the NUS Museum in Singapore in 2008, an early museum exhibition abroad, followed by Metaphysics of Skin at Tyler Rollins Fine Art in New York in 2009, an early solo exhibition in the United States. Through the 2010s he exhibited at Galerie Perrotin in Hong Kong, the Ayala Museum in Manila, the Museo delle Culture in Lugano, and the Museum of Contemporary Art Taipei, and his 2017 exhibition Shadow Forest, at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, extended his standing at home.

Ventura continues to live and work in Manila. His work has been shown internationally through multiple galleries rather than a single exclusive representative: Primo Marella Gallery in Milan has hosted several solo exhibitions of his work over more than a decade, and Tyler Rollins Fine Art in New York has presented multiple shows of his work since 2009.
