Biography
Scott Kahn was born in 1946 in Springfield, Massachusetts. He earned a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1967, studied in 1968 under Theodoros Stamos in the Stamos class at the Art Students League of New York, and completed an MFA at Rutgers University in 1970. He spent much of his career as a working but little-known painter, supported at points by an artist residency at the Edward F. Albee Foundation in Montauk (1975 to 1977) and by Pollock-Krasner Foundation grants in 1986 and 1995.
His public profile changed markedly starting around 2019, when a wider audience began to encounter his work through Instagram and a series of sold-out gallery shows, including exhibitions with Nicelle Beauchene Gallery and Harper's Books in 2019 and with Almine Rech in Paris and New York in 2021 and 2022. In 2024, David Zwirner announced representation of Kahn and presented Once in a Blue Moon at its Hong Kong space, his first solo exhibition in Asia.
