Song Yige

Song Yige (also seen in Western name order as Yige Song) was born in 1980 in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, China. She earned an MFA in Oil Painting from the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang, completing her degree in 2007, after which she moved to Beijing, where she continues to live and work. Her paintings are figurative and slightly surreal, depicting everyday objects, anonymous figures, and subjects from the natural world set in imagined or unsettled scenes.

For close to a decade, her work has been collected and supported by Zeng Fanzhi, a relationship that press coverage has treated as an important early form of validation rather than a formal prize. Her exhibition history moved through several Asian venues in the early 2010s, including ARTMIA Gallery in Beijing and Hyundai Gallery in Seoul in 2010, HanArt TZ Gallery in Hong Kong in 2011, and Sotheby's Gallery in Hong Kong in 2014. The highest confirmed price for her work is HKD 151,200 (about USD 19,500) for the painting Out of Control, sold at Phillips in association with Poly Auction in Hong Kong on 3 December 2020. Her commercial presence to date has run mainly through galleries and museum exhibitions rather than a developed resale market, and pricing at auction should be read as provisional rather than as evidence of an established trading range.

Her exact birth date is not confirmed in available sources, only the year and city of birth are documented, and no catalogue raisonne exists. Her name appears in both family-name-first order (Song Yige) and Western order (Yige Song) across galleries, press, and auction catalogues, so collectors researching her market should search both forms.
