Stefanie Heinze

Stefanie Heinze was born in 1987 in Berlin, Germany. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (Hochschule fur Grafik und Buchkunst) from 2007 to 2014, earning a Master's degree there, with gallery biographies giving slightly different graduation years of 2014 and 2016 for the same course of study. In 2012 she spent a year at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (KHiO) in Norway, and in 2016 she took part in a residency at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine.

Heinze's paintings combine biomorphic forms, fragmented figures, and invented creatures set against flattened, fantastical backgrounds, a style that gallery texts describe in terms of ambiguous, shifting forms.
