Sung Hee Cho

Sung Hee Cho was born in 1949 in Jeonju, South Korea. She earned a BFA from the College of Fine Arts at Hongik University in Seoul in 1972 and an MA from the Graduate School of Education at Ewha Womans University in 1975. After relocating to the United States in 1980, she studied at the Otis/Parsons Art Institute in Los Angeles and Paris from 1980 to 1981, at the Pratt Institute of Art in New York from 1982 to 1983, and at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1988.

Her signature technique involves hand-cut or torn circles of hanji, traditional Korean mulberry paper, layered and built up with oil pigment into dense, textured surfaces.
