Sylvie Fleury

Sylvie Fleury was born on 24 June 1961 in Geneva, Switzerland, where she continues to live and work. After finishing school in Geneva she went to New York as an au pair and became involved with a circle of NYU film students, an experience that pulled her toward art making. In 1981 she studied photography, and by one account experimental cinematography, at the Germain School of Photography in New York City. She has described the rest of her training as self-directed, developed in part while working as an assistant to the artist John M Armleder after she returned to Geneva.
