Woo Kukwon

Woo Kukwon was born in 1976 in Seoul, South Korea. He left Korea for Japan in 2001 to study at Tokyo Designer Gakuin College in Tokyo, graduating in 2003, and worked as a graphic designer in Japan before turning to painting.

In 2010 he was selected as one of twenty artists for the 32nd JoongAng Fine Arts Prize, one of Korea's notable painting honors, an early marker of institutional attention. His profile expanded internationally after joining Tang Contemporary Art, with solo exhibitions at the gallery's Hong Kong space (Carnival, 2022), Beijing space (Once Upon Her Time, 2023), Seoul space (My Universe, 2024), and Singapore space (Universe's Universe, 2025), plus a 2025 solo presentation at the Hendrik Christian Andersen Museum in Rome. He lives and works in Seoul.
