Wu Wei

Wu Wei was born in 1981 in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China. He earned a BFA from Henan University in 2004, then continued his studies in the Experimental Art Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing, completing an MFA there in 2012. He lives and works in Beijing.

His practice centers on paper as a sculptural and material language, used to build works that address the body, civilization and its opposite, and mythological imagery. He has been represented in recent years by Tang Contemporary Art, which has staged multiple solo exhibitions of his work in Beijing, Seoul, and Hong Kong. He won the 3rd New Star Art Festival Art Award in 2012 and the New Artists Space Award (6th Anniversary Award) in 2015. As of mid-2026 he continues to exhibit actively, including a solo show, Behemoth, staged through Tang Contemporary Art.
