Xia Yu

Xia Yu was born in 1981 in Feidong, Anhui Province, China. He studied oil painting at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing, graduating in 2004 from the Third Studio of the Oil Painting Department. During his university years he encountered tempera and adopted it as his primary medium, typically applying it to aluminum or wood panels to build up dense, matte surfaces depicting ordinary domestic and urban moments.
